How TO BecOme A pROFESSIONAL dIGITAL mARKETER iN nIGERIA iN 10 Simple Steps

Wait, do people still aspire to become digital marketers in Nigeria or anywhere in the world? – The situation in the Nigerian space is such that sometimes does not reward digital marketers for all the efforts they put into getting the job done – Like ensuring the website rakes in all the needed traffic organically or with paid campaigns plus ensuring the site is generally optimized for conversion allowing visitors to take one or two conversion actions – As leads or as instant purchasers.

Let me help you understand this challenge a little deeper. I recently randomly interviewed 20 Digital marketers in Nigeria (Some were my old students), of these 20, about 10 of them already pivoted into other skills like data analytics, and 5 of the remaining 10 were unsure if they could continue in digital marketing as they were finding it hard to be fine financially and only, only the last 5 had grown and are happy with continuing with digital marketing.

What exactly happened to the 15? – Well, you will be shocked when I reveal my findings to you. This is why writing this blog post on how to become a professional digital marketer in Nigeria became important.

Before I delve into the steps of becoming a professional digital marketer in Nigeria, first, let’s consider the lucrativeness of digital marketing.

How Lucrative Is Digital Marketing In Nigeria Exactly

The amount a digital marketer can make in Nigeria in 2025 largely depends on the digital marketing career path they decide to pursue and their level of expertise. For example, a full-time digital marketing beginner in any organization earns between ₦85,000 to ₦150,000 Monthly. Freelancers on the other hand earn higher.

If you decide to pursue an office career as a digital marketer in Nigeria working 9 to 5 pm, your salary/Monthly income may be capped to the above figure. Digital marketing freelancing on the other hand is a more worthy path to tow as a Nigerian digital marketer because of the numerous benefits it brings such as Time freedom, financial freedom, and many other things.

It all falls back to you to decide which path you want to take as a digital marketer in Nigeria – A 9-5 Digital marketer or simply a freelancer.
